After last week's announcement regarding user accounts I am proud to announce a new integration with the Octopus API.
A new settings page has been added to user accounts where you can configure your Octopus API key.
Configuring this key allows AgileBuddy to download your account and usage information from Octopus, which you can try out on our new energy usage page.
This is the culmination of more than a month's work to enhance user accounts with personalised consumption data.
This feature adds some much needed transparancy regarding your energy usage:
- View your usage over the last week, month, quarter or year
- See usage and rates side by side, including the actual cost of your energy use
- This is especially useful for those on Agile or Tracker tariffs
- See statistics about your usage
- Average daily usage and cost
- Earnings from Plunge pricing
- Your base load (typical minimum usage)
- Your peak load (peak usage)
- Details of your account(s) with Octopus
- An overview of your current and previous Octopus tariffs
Try it out on our new energy usage page.
This functionality is still under active development, so please be patient if you encounter any issues.
Feel free to contact us if you have any problems or feedback.

Introducing AgileBuddy's latest feature: User Accounts.
You can now register an account with AgileBuddy and use it to save your settings and preferences.
- Save your preferred region
- Save your Optimiser appliances for use across different devices
This is just the first step in a series of account features that will be coming to AgileBuddy in the near future. Stay tuned!

I often find myself looking out for tomorrow's Agile rates late in the afternoon. How bad are the evening peak rates? Will there be any juicy periods of plunge pricing? When should plan to do my laundry? Octopus indicates on their website that rates are available between 16:00 and 20:00, depending on when the next day's wholesale rates are available.
They add that this is usually closer to 4pm, which is also what I've observed. AgileBuddy has been automatically gathering the latest agile rates for a few weeks now, so I've spent some time analysing the data to see when rates are typically available. Octopus is correct that rates are usually available closer to 4pm, often even before 4pm. As a result of these findings I have adjusted AgileBuddy's rate fetcher to start looking for rates a bit earlier (from 15:45) to make sure the rates are shown as soon as they are available.
I've prepared a chart of when rates have been available recently:
I've added this graph to the agile statistics page, where you can find some interesting statistics and averages for the Agile tariff. Over time a better picture should emerge of when rates are usually available.
